THE DISFIGURATION OF THE PÉRIGORD VERT

Another new wind turbine project in the PARC NATUREL RÉGIONAL PÉRIGORD LIMOUSIN

The unspoiled beauty of the Périgord Vert has, up to now, been preserved from the impact of industrial development. This natural landscape has no large industrial areas, no high-speed lines, no motorways ...... only rolling green hills, meadows, rivers, forests, castles, and beautiful old buildings. It is this picture postcard idyll that attracts not only thousands of holiday visitors, but also new residents each year.

The installation of wind turbines in this bucolic setting is incompatible with the surroundings and would change the landscape forever.

After the wind projects of La Rochebeaucourt-et- Argentine, Champagne-et-Fontaine[1], Miallet, and of Feuillade, it is now in the Forest of Beaussac that the German company ‘ABO WIND’ wants to establish an industrial wind farm!

The Forest of Beaussac comprises nearly 3,000 acres of mixed woodland. It has two rare features:

  • The forest is crossed by only one small road at its southern tip (linking Beaussac to Bretanges), ensuring a largely undisturbed haven for the numerous species of wildlife

  • An important resource (timber and biomass)

These two features are valuable and we need to preserve them.

This wind power project is

An absurdity for the landscape and for tourism.
The forest of Beaussac, located on a plateau, is surrounded by valleys. These industrial wind turbines will be seen from a distance of over 25km.

All around the Forest of Beaussac, less than one kilometer from its perimeter, in the commune of Beaussac and the four neighboring communes, there are dozens of ancient buildings including 8 that are protected and listed as Historic Monuments.
All of these monuments will be affected while almost all have been the subject of recent restorations, by private or public funds. Many are open to the public.

An economic absurdity:
The local economy has slowly been rebuilt by welcoming new residents, including many foreigners, who use and help maintain local services, thus avoiding the decline in these sectors[1].

Dozens of gites and chambres d’hotes welcome tourists all year round.
How many old farmhouses, restored with passion and a lot of financial sacrifice, often by our European friends, will be dominated by these huge concrete and metal constructions?
This project will be disastrous for the local economy and WILL NOT CREATE ANY JOBS.

We refuse wind turbines in the forest of BEAUSSAC

WE REFUSE

  • Visual pollution. Strong impact on the landscape. Night flashes every few seconds visible from several kilometers

  • Impact on wildlife especially migrating birds and protected species (such as bats)and the imbalance of the ecosystem

  • Negative impact on ‘green’ tourism in a Regional Natural Park, whose aim in the first place was to draw attention to its natural assets in an economically fragile and depopulated area

  • Potential decline in real estate value of properties and land

  • Conflicts between residents

  • Possible health effects due to ultrasound and infrasound (headaches, tinnitus)

  • Misuse of public money – an area of low wind levels and thus an inefficient scheme

WE WANT TO

  • keep this unique and enchanting living environment for people and wildlife

  • continue to welcome French and other visitors

  • conserve our businesses, our hotels and gites

  • keep our schools, our public services
